As the 1st Cavalry Division was being withdrawn from Vietnam, A/227th moved to Pleiku, Vietnam during February 1971 to become part of the 52nd Combat Aviation Battalion. (On 30 August 1971, the final 227th unit { D/227 } was inactivated).
The 3rd Aviation Company, 52nd Combat Aviation Battalion, was a U.S. aviation company that was constituted from the assets of A Company 227th AHB in September 1971.
The callsign Chickenman continued with the 3rd Aviation Company.

The 52nd battalion arrived in Pleiku, RVN in February 1963 and operated throughout the war. This battalion covered the central highlands, mountainous terrain with 7,000 foot peaks. The terrain made flying even more dangerous with fog in the valleys and emergency LZ's hard to find. They supported the 4th and 25th Infantry Divisions as well as the ARVN units. The battalion participated in Tet 68, and in 1970 spearheaded flight support for the NE Cambodian operations. The battalion departed Vietnam in April 1972.
